Class Eight consists of new recruits such as Sun Dapeng (played by Sun Xiaopeng), Yu Feng (played by Gu Yufeng), and Xu Shuai (played by Xu Haiqiao), with the class leader being veteran Wang Dali (played by Wang Lei). Due to differences in education and age, intense conflicts immediately arise between Wang Dali and the new recruits when military training begins. The college student soldiers demand a change of class leader, while Wang Dali feels he cannot communicate with them and proposes to move to another class. The management remains noncommittal upon learning of this. The new recruits are spirited and continually stir up trouble, creating daily sources of conflict.
