On August 9, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Japan. A young man named Koji (played by Kazunari Ninomiya), studying at a medical university, dies unexpectedly without warning. Three years pass in the blink of an eye, and Koji's mother, Nobuko Fukuhara (played by Sayuri Yoshinaga), seems to gradually accept the fact that her son is no longer in this world. Her husband and two sons have all passed away, and she walks through difficult times alone, supported by her faith. One night, Koji suddenly appears beside his mother. Nobuko is overjoyed and has a heartfelt conversation with her son. Koji's personality remains unchanged as he shares laughter and conversation with his mother; of course, he has another reason for lingering in the world: his love for his fiancée, Machiko Sato (played by Hana Kukiki).
