In 1930s Shanghai, the wealthy Jing family has two sons and two daughters. After the father marries a concubine named Baozhu, she conspires with her lover Shen Bin to bring down the Jing family. The two Jing sisters simultaneously fall in love with the doctor Gao Shangqian. The younger sister Limei injures her foot and becomes lame, while the elder sister Lixue facilitates her sister's marriage and departs for another place. Five years later, Lixue finally returns to the old place full of memories amidst the snowstorm. On that night, a murder occurs at Lixue’s residence, and the victim turns out to be Shen Bin, the enemy of the Jing family from back then. In an instant, Lixue is accused of being the murderer and is imprisoned.
