The story takes place in the bright and bustling Shanghai, a city full of traffic and opportunities. Here, a group of unknown outsiders arrives with dreams of wealth and prosperity, facing not only endless hopes for the future but also the various bittersweet experiences of life. A rural woman named Da Xu (played by Ding Jiali) is honest and kind, not overly concerned with trivialities. Her husband is seriously ill and burdened with enormous medical expenses, prompting Da Xu to come to Shanghai and make a living by scavenging. Contractor Xie Changfa (played by Ma Shaohua) is savvy and capable but falls victim to a treacherous scheme that damages his career and lands him in prison. Young tailor Lu Wenchang (played by Gao Jingwen) loses a lifetime of savings in an instant, while rural youth Cuicui (played by Huang Bo) comes to Shanghai for love, only to find that his girlfriend Mona is not as enthusiastic as he imagined.
