The third part of the "Plum Blossom Trilogy." The story takes place during the Republic of China era around the picturesque West Lake. 　　Mei Ruo Hong (played by Ma Jing Tao) is a painter filled with dreams about life. He makes a living by painting for tourists near West Lake. He is captivated when he first meets Du Qian Qian (played by Chen De Rong) at Wang Shan Bridge. He awkwardly invites Qian Qian to the "Drunken Horse Painting Society," and she, a sheltered girl, is thrilled to suddenly meet so many enthusiastic friends. She appreciates their passion and talent, and thus joins the Drunken Horse Painting Society. 　　The gatherings of the Drunken Horse Painting Society take place in the private club of Wang Zi Mo. He and his sister Zi Xuan (played by Chen Hong) are loved and admired by everyone; he is serious and composed, while she is beautiful and graceful. After Qian Qian arrives, the society gains a woman completely different from Zi Xuan. Ruo Hong falls in love with her at first sight but, burdened with his own concerns, chooses to push Qian Qian towards Zi Mo, believing he is unworthy of her. In a moment of frustration, Qian Qian attempts to date Zi Mo but ultimately reveals the truth, sowing discord between Zi Mo and Ruo Hong. 　　Unable to hide their feelings any longer, Ruo Hong and Qian Qian finally get together. Having been expelled from the Drunken Horse Painting Society, they can only meet at Ruo Hong's small cabin by West Lake, "Water Cloud Between." The pressure from the Du family tortures Ruo Hong. After an argument with Qian Qian, he mistakenly ends up with Zi Xuan, thinking she is Qian Qian, resulting in an intimate encounter that leads to Zi Xuan’s pregnancy.
