In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, warlords rose up, leading to constant warfare. After a great battle, the Qing king Tong Taiming became separated from his 7-year-old daughter Tong Lingyu. Wandering to the Ayutthaya Kingdom (present-day Thailand), she was taken in by Muay Thai master Asang, who accepted her as a disciple and taught her Muay Thai every day. During that time, the people of Ayutthaya did not wear shoes, and under the guidance of her master who aimed for her feet to grow stronger, she learned skills such as walking on walls and leaping across roofs. Locals nicknamed her "The Flying Leg." Eleven years later, General Chen Yunhai, the most loyal subordinate of King Tong Taiming, fulfilled his dying wish by finally finding the now-grown and beautiful Lingyu and bringing her and Asang back to the Qing palace. As the orphan of the Qing king, Lingyu was greatly favored upon her return, especially by the Empress Dowager, who personally granted her the title of HeShuo GeGe and bestowed upon her the Feifeng Palace for her residence. Having lived outside for many years, Lingyu found it difficult to adapt to palace life, leading to many conflicts with the Empress and other concubines. They mocked her for her large feet, calling her "The Princess Emerges." Only the Twelfth Prince had a close relationship with Lingyu, and the two gradually developed a budding romance. Despite the Empress Dowager's protection, Lingyu often clashed with the inner court due to her background, particularly deepening the conflict with Xiangyang GeGe, who had once been favored by the Empress Dowager. For a time, both the Empress and Xiangyang lost the affection of the Empress Dowager and Emperor Shunzhi because of Lingyu. Eventually, Lingyu's conflicts with them escalated uncontrollably, resulting in her accidentally injuring Xiangyang severely. Realizing she had committed a grave mistake, Lingyu, with the help of Asang and under the cover of a few loyal palace attendants, escaped the palace amidst a heavy pursuit by the palace guards.
