In the summer of 1943, in the territory of Wunan County under the jurisdiction of the Jin-Cha-Ji border area in the Taihang Mountains, the Japanese army stationed heavy troops to plunder iron ore and timber resources, as well as to build roads. After successfully escaping from the Blackwind Ridge road construction area, Yang Shusheng, the head of the guard company of the 2nd Division of the Jin-Ji-Lu-Yu Military Region of the Eighth Route Army, and several soldiers were hunted down by the Japanese troops led by Lieutenant Colonel Matsuyama to Qingshiyu Village, just in time for villager Zhao Tiechui's wedding. Matsuyama's Japanese troops massacred the village, resulting in the deaths of most villagers and war captives. The youth of Qingshiyu Village vowed revenge on this joyous occasion, aiming to rescue his sister who had been taken as a comfort woman. Yang Shusheng followed and protected him to the county town, where they coincidentally encountered the survivor Tiechui. With the help of anti-Japanese officer Song Chaolai and anti-Japanese youth Wei Jinxiu, they devised a plan to rescue the women at the comfort station. Yang Shusheng and the others also rescued the National Revolutionary Army artillery company commander Xie Kui and several National Army prisoners, and together with Xie Kui, they formed the Taihang Anti-Japanese Brigade to inflict losses on the invaders. To control this group, intelligence organizations from the Nationalists, Communists, and Japanese within the city engaged in a fierce covert war. Despite their differences, Yang Shusheng and Xie Kui ultimately insisted on united combat for the common goal of resisting Japan.
