A mining disaster occurred at the Lianhua Gully gold mine in Xihe City. The mine owner and general manager of Xin Yue International Club, Leng Xiaoyue, was on her way to the scene when she suddenly received a directive from a behind-the-scenes figure relayed by Liu Fengying, the female owner of Hongying Art Gallery. Leng then passed this order to Jin Yuliang, the manager of the gold company, who relayed it to the foreman, Cui Tianbao. Thus, a major mining disaster was transformed into an incident with injuries but no fatalities. Xueshan is the recently resigned city party secretary Lin Weiju's son-in-law, who transferred to the municipal supervision bureau. When he returned to his hometown, Tujinao Village, to visit his mother, he discovered that several gold farmers were missing. He went to the shantytown for an investigation with a female lawyer he met there, Sha Yeshuang, but they were kidnapped and “sent back” to the city.
