Produced by the China TV Drama Production Center and starring renowned actor Xu Honghao, the large-scale historical biography "The General" will soon premiere on CCTV-8's prime time slot. The drama tells the legendary life of Han Xianchu, a proletarian revolutionary, military strategist, and General of the People's Liberation Army. Han Xianchu was born into a poor farming family in Huang'an (Hong'an) County, Hubei Province. He worked as a cowherd, learned the craft of basket weaving, and did odd jobs in Wuhan. His hardships in his youth led him to quickly embrace the revolutionary idea of "official oppression drives the people to revolt." In November 1927, during the outbreak of the Huangma Uprising, he joined the local farmers' association, participated in the Anti-Imperialist Alliance, and even served as the land commissioner of the local Soviet. During the tumultuous days of the revolutionary movement, he, with his simple class consciousness and passionate fervor, threw himself into the fiery revolutionary struggle.
