Retired teacher Song Yuhua and her late husband Shen Ligeng raised three children who are now thriving in their careers outside. After her husband's passing, Song Yuhua struggles with loneliness and depression, unable to adapt to the "lock on the door when leaving, lamp on when entering" lifestyle. Her son Shen Yue feels guilty for not being able to see his father one last time due to a business trip overseas, so he brings her to their home in Hangzhou to show filial piety. However, his wife Xu Li is meticulous and competitive, causing ongoing conflicts between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. In Shanghai, the eldest daughter Shen Mei secretly divorces and remarries her ex-husband, losing custody of her child, while the bold youngest daughter Shen Xiang daringly pursues her former brother-in-law Chai Haiqing, leading to significant conflicts among the mother-daughter and sister-sister relationships. At a birthday party where the children are absent for various reasons, the mother loses face in front of friends and relatives. Out of spite, she decides to work as a nanny, and a report titled "Empty Nest Elderly Leaving Home to Be a Nanny" sparks public discussions, driving her children crazy. Upon witnessing his father-in-law die of anger, Shen Yue deeply feels the guilt of "wanting to support their parents but not being able to," and decides to give up a promotion to stay by his mother's side. Shen Mei experiences domestic violence and divorces again, becoming physically and mentally exhausted, and is diagnosed with uremia. Her ex-husband Chai Haiqing donates a kidney to save her, and they reconcile. Shen Xiang finally finds her own love and focuses on creating television programs for the elderly. Through the filial piety of her children, the mother actively faces life and enjoys each day.
