In 1937, after the "Marco Polo Bridge Incident," the Eighth Route Army was ordered to cross the Yellow River. Zheng Chuan led an independent regiment to the front lines, fighting fiercely at Pingxingguan and receiving accolades; meanwhile, the Nationalist Army faced defeats and criticism, with Zhou Zhiguo unable to accept Zheng Chuan's achievements. Amid the chaos of war, Zheng Chuan unexpectedly encountered his missing wife, Li Ying. With Li Ying's help, the independent regiment launched a surprise attack on the airport, supporting the frontline. The Japanese army, feeling pressured, turned to raid Niangzi Pass, leading to the fall of Taiyuan. The independent regiment established an anti-Japanese base in the Taiyue Mountains, first eliminating bandits to win the support of the people, which, however, caused unrest among hardliners like Zhou Fuyuan, resulting in friction and the sacrifice of Li Ying. For the greater good, the independent regiment tearfully withdrew. The Japanese army then initiated the Battle of Zhongtiao Mountain, leading to a disastrous defeat for the Nationalist Army, and Zhou Zhiguo sacrificed his life, causing Taiyuan to fall. The independent regiment reopened a base, and Zheng Chuan commanded the "Siege of Taiyue." Composer Xian Xinghai witnessed the valiant deeds of the soldiers and created the "Yellow River Cantata." After fierce battles, the "Siege Battle" achieved victory and ultimately defeated Japan, leading to the victory of the anti-fascist war.
