Song Liansheng is a wandering doctor with exceptional medical skills. While practicing medicine in Changsha, he encounters the owner of an embroidery shop, Wushuang, with whom he becomes deeply infatuated. Consequently, he opens a clinic in front of the embroidery shop and agrees to Wushuang's request to help the Donglin Party procure a large quantity of medical supplies. This violates imperial regulations, putting him at risk of the death penalty. Thanks to a clever plan by the owner of Jiuzhitang, Song Liansheng is saved, but he soon finds himself at odds with the local ruffian Qi Datou. He saves a patient that the Wenshi Hall couldn't help, causing the clinic's reputation to decline and resulting in hostility against him. Misunderstanding Wushuang leads him to leave Changsha, but on his journey, he discovers an outbreak of plague approaching Changsha. He immediately returns to notify Jiuzhitang to buy a large quantity of medicine and control the sale of medicinal materials, which helps contain the plague. The Emperor wishes to grant a clinic name to the pharmacy that accomplished the feat, but Wushuang's aunt, the physician Wu from Wenshi Hall, uses underhanded tactics to damage Jiuzhitang's reputation. When Jiuzhitang faces a shortage of medicinal supplies and Wushuang falls seriously ill, Song Liansheng has no choice but to seek help from Wenshi Hall. However, Wushuang employs schemes to have Song Liansheng expelled from Changsha, and she, with a broken heart, heads to Nanjing... Despite being kind-hearted and quick to help others, Song Liansheng is forced to leave Changsha multiple times, exemplifying the unpredictability of life and the complexity of human nature.
