In the 1930s, a young performer named Shang Xirui rose to fame in the Peking opera scene due to his exceptional skills. To establish himself in Beijing and fulfill his promise to promote traditional opera, he persevered and immersed himself in the world of art. During this process, a new wealthy businessman named Cheng Fengtai, who had never seen Peking opera before, was deeply moved after watching his performance. He wanted to befriend him and, under Shang's influence, gradually became fascinated with Peking opera. With Cheng's help, Shang overcame numerous obstacles to rebuild Shuiyunlou in Beijing and cultivated a group of outstanding Peking opera talents, greatly extending his influence. In 1937, when the Japanese army occupied Beijing, aware of their atrocious acts of burning, killing, and looting, enlightened individuals who could not bear to see the beautiful mountains and rivers and the national art be destroyed began to rise up in resistance. Shang and Cheng were also influenced by the patriotic fervor of the people, temporarily setting aside their personal ambitions to join the revolutionary ranks to defend their homeland and contribute to the protection and inheritance of art.
