"Little Five Becomes an Official" is a rural-themed comedy set in the Republic of China, telling the absurd story of the "fake and real county magistrate" during the Beiyang period, reminiscent of the story of the drama version of "Let the Bullets Fly." Originally, Wang Xiaowu, a farmer in Dayang Village who makes popcorn, is honest and straightforward but has been childless for many years, often mocked by others, and his fierce wife, Tian Dahong, frequently seeks various remedies for him, leading to multiple poisoning incidents. Unable to endure this, Wang Xiaowu decides to go to the city to seek medical help to fulfill his dream of having children. However, on his way to the city, he is forcibly abducted by the county magistrate Jiang Xingjin, who is heading to Wolong County to take office, intending to use him as a scapegoat. Coincidentally, Jiang Xingjin falls ill and dies that very day, allowing Wang Xiaowu to escape this calamity. Yet, the county magistrate's wife, Liu Huidi, unwilling to lose the impending wealth and honors and to repay her husband’s bribery debts, pressures and entices Wang Xiaowu to impersonate the county magistrate, leading to a series of laughable events. Faced with the various benefits that come with power, Wang Xiaowu becomes lost at one point, fearful of death, engages in wrongful acts, and makes unjust rulings that harm the people. Later, with Tian Dahong's guidance, he regains his conscience and gradually walks the path of serving the people for their benefit. In the perilous political arena, with his innate purity and kindness, combined with the support of his fierce wife Tian Dahong, Xiaowu punishes evil, promotes good, repays kindness with kindness, turns misfortune into blessing, and encounters good fortune in times of trouble, ultimately accomplishing a remarkable career and becoming a beloved official among the people.
