"Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Monsters" is adapted from the manga "Yu-Gi-Oh!" and aired on Tokyo TV from 2000 to 2004. The story is primarily based on the manga, but due to the manga's plot development not keeping pace, a large amount of original plotlines and characters not present in the manga were incorporated. This laid the foundation for independent story creation apart from the "original." The Duelist Kingdom Arc A mysterious videotape, the holder of the Millennium Eye among the Millennium Items, Maximillion Pegasus, challenges Yugi Mutou to a dark duel, but Yugi loses due to time being called. As a consequence, the soul of Yugi's grandfather is sealed in the Soul Card by the power of the Millennium Eye (in the manga, it was a videotape sent by Pegasus to Yugi). To rescue his grandfather's soul, Yugi and his friends venture to Duelist Kingdom to duel Pegasus, fighting alongside trusted companions and another side of himself within. The Battle City Preceding Arc After the Duelist Kingdom battle, Yugi Mutou's notoriety skyrockets. A mysterious Egyptian tablet arrives for exhibition in Japan, revealing the secrets of the Millennium Items, battles from three thousand years ago, three God Cards, and the memories of an unnamed pharaoh hidden within the Millennium Puzzle. Seto Kaiba acquires one of the God Cards, Obelisk the Tormentor, and to obtain the remaining two God Cards, he hosts the Battle City tournament in Domino City, betting Duel Monsters cards as the stakes. Meanwhile, the new generation Duel Disk is also revealed. Yugi seeks to recover the memories of the unnamed pharaoh, requiring him to collect all three God Cards and participate in the tournament, where various skilled duelists compete for the last spot in the event while the mysterious Ghouls organization sends their hunter, Rafael, into the fray. The Noah Arc (Original to Anime) During the journey of the Duelist's airship to an artificial island, the ship's system is hacked, altering its course. What is this enormous mobile fortress that blocks Yugi and the others? Mysterious figures calling themselves the "Big Five" emerge, seeking the bodies of Yugi and his friends, leading to a life-or-death duel. They discover that the leader of the Big Five, a boy named Noah, is actually the son of Gozaburo Kaiba (Seto's adoptive father)! A great battle is about to unfold. The Battle City Final Arc The final battle of Battle City commences, with each duelist having their reasons for fighting. Jounouchi aims to become a true duelist and save Mai from Malik's dark game punishment, while Kaiba desires to duel his rival Yugi, eliminate the vile leader of the Ghouls to obtain Ra, and fulfill his dream of creating Kaiba Land. Yugi hopes to keep his promise to Jounouchi, confront Kaiba in their fated duel, rescue those punished by the dark game, and recover his lost memories, declaring war on Malik. The Doma Arc (Original to Anime) After Battle City, Yugi is hindered by an unknown force, while the three God Cards are stolen by a group known as the Doma Trio. What is the mysterious organization's purpose for stealing the God Cards? The mysterious card—"Orichalcos"—possesses dark energy that will bring significant changes to its user. The Dark Magician Girl descends from the spirit world, seeking Yugi's help as the fate of the human world and the spirit world hangs in the balance. How will the unnamed legendary dragon assist Yugi and his friends? The KaibaCorp Tournament Arc (Original to Anime) After the Doma incident, Yugi and his friends find themselves without money to return to Japan, leading them to reluctantly request assistance from KaibaCorp, which mistakenly invites them to participate in a tournament to uphold its reputation. Duelists from around the world gather, and a unique competition begins. The Pharaoh's Memories Arc In search of the true name and memories of the unnamed pharaoh's soul residing in the Millennium Puzzle, Yugi and his friends embark on a journey to Egypt. Behind the memory tablets, they uncover the pharaoh's past, while Atem begins to stir, utilizing the dark power of the Millennium Wheel for a dark RPG within the Millennium Puzzle. In this dark RPG, Yugi must confront the memories of the unnamed pharaoh and reclaim his true name, defeat the evil god Zorc, and seal him away once again; otherwise, Zorc will revive in the real world. A total of 224 episodes.
