Yue Ying is righteous and eager to help others, often causing trouble outside, which makes his father, Yue Cunzong, uneasy. His grandmother dotes on Yue Ying, the only grandson of the Yue family. When Yue Ying was a child, he was kidnapped and rescued by a boy, a memory he cherishes, vowing to find his savior. His grandmother, Princess Shu, orders Yue Ying to marry early to ensure the continuation of the Yue family, leaving Cunzong and his wife at a loss, as Yue Ying has been dressing as a boy all along. Yue Cunzong is appointed by the court as the governor of Shandong, and during the family's trip to take up his post, they are robbed. Cunzong blames the local general, Hong Kun, for negligence. Unbeknownst to Cunzong, Hong Kun has secretly colluded with the bandit leader Yu Dingyi from Tianlong Mountain, and returns the robbed silver. During the robbery, Cunzong desperately guards a brocade box, sparking Yue Ying's curiosity, and later, his mother, Yue Rong, reveals the secret of a half jade bi inside the box to Yue Ying. Yue Ying learns martial arts from Hong Kun's son, Hong Yuxuan, who, along with his friend Wenchang, is very fond of Yue Ying, only lamenting that he is a "boy." Wenchang sends a matchmaker to propose marriage to the Yue family, but Yue Ying realizes that Wenchang mistakes him for his sister, Yue Lin, and tries to persuade Wenchang to turn back. Wenchang is oblivious to the truth and only discovers his mistake on the wedding day. In search of a large amount of gold, Cunzong looks for the other half of the jade bi. To help the prostitutes in Yihong Tower regain their lives, Yue Ying falsely claims that the treasure is there, leading Cunzong to search the place thoroughly, finding nothing. Consequently, Yue Ying has a fallout with his father and runs away from home. Yuxuan expresses his affection for Yue Ying, but she rejects him, stating that she cannot forget her savior from her childhood. By chance, Yue Ying mistakenly believes that Yu Jiujin, who has washed his hands of banditry, is her savior. In gratitude, Yue Ying teaches the fishmonger Jiujin to read. The bandit Tian Yang from Tianlong Mountain, seeking revenge for Yu Dingyi, attempts to kidnap the princess who has come to Shandong, demanding the head of General Hong Kun as a bargaining chip. Yue Ying learns about the princess’s whereabouts and, in a panic, recognizes Tian Yang as her savior. To repay the kindness, Yue Ying lets Tian Yang go and advises him to repent and return to the right path. The bandits suspect Tian Yang of divulging the secrets of their hideout to Yue Ying, viewing him as a traitor, and they beat him severely and expel him from the stronghold. Yue Ying, feeling guilty upon hearing that Tian Yang is seriously injured. The bandits believe Tian Yang has betrayed them, leading to his brutal expulsion from the hideout. Yue Ying, feeling guilty about Tian Yang's injury, is distressed. Yuxuan is unhappy about the close relationship between Tian Yang and Yue Ying. Wenchang, acting on his own, informs Hong Kun of Tian Yang's whereabouts, leading to Tian Yang's capture by the officials. Yue Ying threatens her father with suicide to force him to release Tian Yang. To prevent Tian Yang from going astray again, Yue Cunzong keeps him in the mansion and forces him to study and play the guqin, hoping to reform his lazy "thief nature." Later, Tian Yang is falsely accused by Ding Wenchang and expelled from the Yue mansion. Tian Yang agrees to elope with Ru Mei, but Ru Mei arrives late, informing Tian Yang that she has already agreed to marry a wealthy merchant, Mr. Zhuo, leaving him heartbroken. Cunzong suspects the other half of the jade bi might have fallen into the hands of the black flag gang of Tianlong Village, and uses the excuse of eliminating bandits to order Hong Kun to attack the stronghold. Tian Yang learns of the military situation and rushes back to warn the stronghold, but arrives too late; the bandits are exterminated and leader Yu Dingyi is captured. Princess Shu tries to arrange a marriage between Yuxuan and Yue Ying, but Yue Ying remains distracted and unhappy. She is still mourning the death of Tian Yang in the fire. However, Tian Yang survives the fire, escaping and hiding in a cave to recover. He unusually goes out of his way to please Yue Ying, intending to leverage their relationship to kill Hong Yuxuan and report Hong Kun's collusion with the bandits to Yue Ying's father, Yue Cunzong. Believing Tian Yang, Cunzong dismisses Hong Kun and appoints a certain Yan to act in the role of general. Hong Kun secretly kills General Yan, initially framing Yue Ying but later tries to win favor with Yue Cunzong to save her. All of this leads Yue Cunzong to be grateful to Hong Kun, and he is reinstated. Tian Yang and Jiujin escape back to the stronghold, which is now under the control of Lin Laigui and Er Niang. Tian Yang devises a plan to force Lin Laigui and Er Niang to reveal the truth about the murder of the former chief. Lin Laigui and others are expelled from the stronghold, and Tian Yang is made the new chief. The Yue family pressures Yue Ying to marry Yuxuan, but she refuses, leaving a suicide note to evade the marriage, which causes chaos in the Yue family. With nowhere else to turn, Yue Ying escapes to Tianlong Mountain, rescuing the mistreated Ru Mei on the way. Together, they ascend the stronghold, but upon seeing Tian Yang and Ru Mei inseparable, Yue Ying, in anger, runs out, too ashamed to return home, and ends up on the streets. Hong Yuxuan, having lost Yue Ying, leaves the Hong residence to wander, coincidentally meeting Yue Ying, who is working odd jobs. They discuss returning to Laizhou together. Eventually, Yue Ying returns home, and her family feels like they have been separated for ages. Due to the relationship between Tian Yang and Ru Mei, Yue Ying publicly confronts Tian Yang and drives him out when he comes to propose marriage to the Yue family. The bandits of Tianlong Mountain, under Tian Yang's leadership, renounce their evil ways and open a black flag tavern in Laizhou to make a living. However, the Yue family and Tianlong Mountain's enmity intensifies, with Princess Shu continually obstructing, leading to declining business at the tavern and its imminent closure. Yue Ying cannot bear to see Yuxuan dejected and visits the Hong residence multiple times to encourage him to regain confidence, eventually bringing him to the Yue mansion. Yuxuan's mother, Mrs. Zhou, goes to a temple to pray, where she encounters an old friend, Fang Si, who recounts past stories. It turns out Tian Yang is Mrs. Zhou's biological son and Yuxuan's twin brother. Due to the social status, Mrs. Zhou claims to be Tian Yang's aunt, preventing their recognition. After meeting Mrs. Zhou, Tian Yang is unusually happy, leading others to mistakenly believe he has a new love interest. The people at the Black Flag Tavern push Tian Yang to marry Ru Mei, but he firmly refuses. Mrs. Zhou was originally a daughter-in-law of the Shi family, but the Shi family was accused of embezzling gold while escorting it and suffered tragic consequences, leading to their demise. Mrs. Zhou was forced to marry Hong Kun. She possesses half of the jade bi related to the treasure, while the other half is with Yue Cunzong. When the two pieces are combined, they reveal the whereabouts of ten million taels of gold. Greed drives Hong Kun and Yue Cunzong to go to great lengths to seize the treasure. Hong Kun first kidnaps Yue Ying as a hostage, while Yue Cunzong offers to marry his daughter to Hong Yuxuan, both aiming to obtain the other's half of the jade bi. Mrs. Zhou risks meeting Tian Yang, revealing their family relations and feud, and gives him a small jade piece, insisting this is the key to the treasure. Tian Yang, unable to gain Yue Ying's forgiveness, plans to kidnap her on the day of her marriage to Yuxuan, using her as a bargaining chip in negotiations with Yue Cunzong and Hong Kun. Tian Yang and Yuxuan harbor mutual hatred over Yue Ying, while she is at a loss. However, both Tian Yang and Yuxuan are unaware of their true identities. The misunderstandings between Tian Yang and Yue Ying are finally resolved, and the truth regarding the brotherly bond between Tian Yang and Yuxuan is unveiled. Thus, the brothers join forces to retrieve the stolen gold, clear the Shi family's name, and despite Hong Kun's desperate struggles, he ultimately meets his doom as a villain. Yue Ying and Tian Yang head to Goryeo to start anew. Years later, they return home with their children to reunite with their family...
