High school student Cha Eun-sang (played by Park Shin-hye) is a workaholic who lives a dull life with her single mother, truly a "poor heir." Kim Tan (played by Lee Min-ho) is the heir to Korea's top conglomerate, Empire Group, handsome and from a prestigious background, born with everything. However, he is an illegitimate child, viewed as a thorn by his half-brother, and is "exiled" to study in the United States. To find her sister, Eun-sang comes to America alone, only to discover that her sister's glamorous life is a lie. Just when her dreams shatter, Eun-sang unexpectedly meets Kim Tan. After experiencing a series of laughable events, Kim Tan brings the homeless Eun-sang back home. Soon after, Kim Tan's fiancée barges in, leading to a complicated relationship between Cinderella and the prince. The wheels of fate keep turning, and Eun-sang and Kim Tan's encounter doesn't end in America. After returning to Korea, Eun-sang transfers to Empire High, a school filled with rich kids, where she meets the intelligent and spoiled heir Choi Young-do, and the conglomerate's daughter Lee Bo-na—these envious 18-year-old heirs make their appearances one by one.
