Alchemy, a science based on the principle of equivalent exchange, involves understanding, decomposing, and reconstructing matter, transforming one object into another. However, this advanced technology cannot be used for human transmutation, which is an absolute taboo in alchemy. Nevertheless, the brothers Edward (voiced by Paku Romi) and Alphonse (voiced by Rie Kugimiya), both endowed with exceptional alchemical talent, violate this taboo due to their immense longing for their mother. The ultimate price they pay is that Edward loses an arm and a leg, and Alphonse can only have his soul attached to a large suit of armor. Finally realizing everything, the brothers seek more knowledge of alchemy to restore their bodies and become state alchemists, embarking on a journey to find the Philosopher's Stone, the ultimate alchemical item. Through their continuous exploration, they eventually uncover the truth behind the Philosopher's Stone and gain deeper insight into the militarized nation they inhabit. At this point, facing the state, ethnicity, and family... where does the future of alchemy truly lie?
