Legend has it that in ancient times, every mountain and river had guardian spirits watching over them. The guardian of Jiri Mountain is the Nine Spirit (played by Choi Jin-hyuk), who, after witnessing an incident in the human world, develops feelings for the female lead of the event, Yoon Se-hwa (played by Lee Yeon-hee), and is even willing to give up his eternal life. To become human, the Nine Spirit must adhere to three rules of the Book of Nine Houses, but due to an accident, he fails to comply, leaving Se-hwa and their newborn child behind. Se-hwa abandons her son in a river, where he is adopted by the wealthy businessman Park Moo-sik, growing up to be a passionate and curious young man, Choi Gang-ji (played by Lee Seung-gi). Meanwhile, the instructor of an invisible knife house, Tan Yoo-hee (played by Bae Suzy), dissatisfied with society’s definition of women and eager to live out her individuality, crosses paths with Gang-ji during an investigation, developing a sense of compassion for him, and the two gradually fall in love through a series of events. In a series of happenings, half-human, half-beast Gang-ji seeks a way to become human, gaining courage, love, and strength in the process.
