Bradley James (from "Merlin") will star in Netflix's new animated series "The Liberator." Why is it animated? Because of a special filming method that uses Trioscope technology, combining the latest CG technology with live-action performances, which is said to provide the visual beauty of animation along with the rich human emotional details needed for serious themes (see image 2 for effect). The series is set during World War II and is based on true events. James plays Felix Sparks, an American officer in the 157th Infantry Regiment. Most of his comrades are cowboys, Native Americans, and Mexican/Americans. Sparks is a cowboy from Arizona, and the story focuses on his journey over more than 500 days on the battlefields of Europe, starting with the invasion of Italy and culminating in the liberation of the Nazi Dachau concentration camp. Sparks is strong and compassionate, daring to disregard commanding officers who care only about their own advancement while ignoring the lives of their subordinates. Over these 500 days, he rises from second lieutenant to lieutenant colonel, leading his men from a single company to over 10,000, marking him as an outstanding "frontline leader." The script is adapted from Alex Kershaw's book "The Liberator: One World War II Soldier's 500-Day Odyssey," with Jeb Stuart (from "Die Hard," "The Fugitive") as the creator, writer, and executive producer. There are 4 episodes, all directed by Grzegorz Jonkajtys, one of the founders of Trioscope technology.
