Here, Suzuai enjoys a happy childhood, although a high fever leaves her deaf in her left ear. Nevertheless, she remains strong and optimistic, living positively. After graduating from high school, Suzuai decides to go to Tokyo alone to pursue her dream of becoming a manga artist. In Tokyo, she meets a group of like-minded friends. However, the post-war bubble economy prevents Suzuai from continuing her dream, and with it, her marriage also falls apart. After her divorce, Suzuai returns to her hometown with her daughter and reunites with her childhood friend Ritsu Hagi (played by Takeru Satoh), whom she hasn't seen in many years.
