Production Company: Warner Bros. Pictures [USA] Distribution Company: Warner Home Video [USA] Superman is increasingly adored by the public, while his old foe Lex Luthor grows more resentful of him. In order to defeat Superman, Luthor has developed a new type of weapon and specifically infused it with a special kryptonite compound, equipping Brainiac to be nearly invincible. After his girlfriend Lois is injured, Superman must travel to the mysterious Phantom Zone to find a cure. Brainiac believes Superman will not return, and thus betrays Luthor, starting to rampage through the city at will, while Superman must stop him before he destroys the Earth. The fights are thrilling, but Superman seems completely unconcerned about the damage being done to Metropolis during the battles; likely half the city has been demolished by them... For Bruce Timm's DCAU series, JLU was its conclusion, giving this series a perfect ending— or perhaps an ellipsis leading to more unfinished battles. This is in stark contrast to the so-called "Superman: Brainiac Attacks," which betrayed all the fans' feelings. Almost ten years after the end of STAS, Warner abandoned DTV of JLU and specifically released Superman, clearly trying to take advantage of the upcoming Superman 5 movie. Due to the rush to meet the film's release date, the hasty production of this film was completely understandable. It's a pity for the loyal fans who eagerly awaited it, as they held tremendous faith in the DCAU—yet this film brutally shattered their expectations and trust, along with Bruce Timm's hard work over the past decade.
