"Arise" was remade in 2015 into a 10-episode TV anime "Ghost in the Shell Arise - Alternative Architecture." The first eight episodes are edited from the four theatrical films, while the last two episodes, "Pyrophoric Cult," are completely new stories. They focus on the electronic brain virus, Pyrophoric, that leads into "Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie," serving as a shocking prequel. DAY 1 In January 2029, a terrorist attack involving an airplane explosion occurs in the suburbs of New Port City. The Public Security Section 9, led by Aramaki, receives a request for joint investigation from the US military's intelligence department. The suspect is believed to be an intermediary in the trafficking of the electronic brain virus, Pyrophoric, dubbed "The Arsonist." The Arsonist has been dispatched by the Celt group to assassinate Colonel Hozuki, killing the investigating US intelligence officer using the airplane explosion as a cover. Kusanagi uses Hozuki as bait to set up a trap to capture the Arsonist. DAY 2 During a fierce electronic brain battle, Kusanagi successfully suppresses the Arsonist. However, the identity of the Arsonist matches the profile of a terrorist found at the airplane crash site! Who exactly is the Arsonist? While analyzing the electronic brain, Kusanagi and her team, who were excluded from the joint investigation, take over the escort of Colonel Hozuki to the US military intelligence department, only to find that the Arsonist successfully escapes, killing all the technicians in the facility and attacking Kusanagi and her team. The Arsonist's electronic brain retains only one intention: to protect the key that can evolve everyone: Pyrophoric.
