In the year 710, Li Dan's third son Li Longji (played by Liu Wei) launched a coup to help him seize the throne. Two years later, his father abdicated the throne to him. Li Longji ascended the throne and became Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, ushering in a prosperous era for the Tang dynasty. Several years later, this tranquility was disrupted by the prince Li Mao's (played by Huang Xiaolei) concubine Yang Yuhuan (played by Lin Fangbing). Li Longji became infatuated with her and, with the help of his trusted eunuch Gao Lishi (played by Li Ruilin), he disregarded everything to win her over. Yang Yuhuan then became known as Consort Yang. Despite already having Consort Wu (played by Li Jianqun), Empress Wang (played by Li Jingli), and Consort Zhao (played by Zhou Jie), Emperor Xuanzong favored Consort Yang the most, even making her cousin Yang Guozhong (played by Gao Lance) the Prime Minister. They spent many happy years together until the rebellion of An Lushan (played by Yan Peter) arose. In the end, Yang Yuhuan became a political sacrifice, tragically dying at Mawei Slope, and the fortune that had favored Emperor Xuanzong came to an end.
