The eight-year War of Resistance had just ended in 1946. The civil war was about to break out in Northeast China. In the complex domestic and international environment, the political bandit activities in Northeast China were rampant, and by the winter of 1946, they posed a deadly threat to democratic reforms... "Snowy Forest" tells the story of a brave and skilled small team fighting against several bandit factions that had occupied the Northeast mountains and forests for years, set against such a complicated historical backdrop. The working team led by female county chief Ju Ping was carrying out land reform in Jiapigou when they were suddenly attacked by the bandit chief Xu Dama Bang from Naitoushan in the middle of the night. In a dangerous situation, correspondent Bai Ru broke through the encirclement to seek help from the Second Regiment of the Mudanjiang Democratic United Army, and on the way, was saved by Yang Zirong, a cook from the regiment who was there to buy grain... Ju's younger brother, Shao Jianbo, the chief of staff of the Second Regiment, rushed to rescue Jiapigou, but the bandits had already fled. Due to the guerrilla warfare characteristics of the bandits, the military district leadership decided to have Shao Jianbo form an elite small team to pursue the bandits deep into the snowy forest and required them to find an underground contact map marking the distribution of hidden agents in the Mudanjiang area. Shao Jianbo realized the severity of the situation and the great responsibility on his shoulders, carefully selected a group of skilled soldiers, such as the strong "Tank" Liu Xuncang, the "Long Legs" Sun Dade who could travel long distances at night, and the climbing expert Luan Chaojia. The military district commander Tian arranged Yang Zirong, a cook who understood bandit slang and was familiar with Northeast customs, into the small team. Although Shao Jianbo was reluctant to accept old Yang due to his complex background, under Commander Tian's orders, he decided to let him be the cook first and see how it goes... Bai Ru also pleaded with Commander Tian to help her join the small team to take revenge for County Chief Ju... The Soviet Red Army stationed in Mudanjiang suddenly surrounded the Second Regiment Headquarters and confiscated weapons. Yang Zirong noticed a flaw while following a Soviet Red Army translator and escaped the headquarters at night with a tank, capturing a translator who was conspiring with bandits to undermine the democratic army, thereby resolving the crisis. As a result, Yang Zirong earned the initial trust of Shao Jianbo and other members of the small team. The first stop of the small team was to stay in Jiapigou to gather intelligence about the bandits. Unexpectedly, as soon as they arrived, the original land reform working team's house mysteriously caught fire. Yang Zirong found a suspicious old rubber shoe at the fire scene and decided to use it as a breakthrough for further reconnaissance. Yang Zirong and Liu Xuncang silently investigated the forest for several days and finally uncovered important intelligence: the owner of the rubber shoe was a small furnace worker named Luan Ping, who was actually the liaison officer of the bandits from Naitoushan. Without alarming the enemy, Yang Zirong managed to capture Luan Ping alive... During the interrogation of Luan Ping, it was discovered that a woman named Huaihua, who had lived in Jiapigou for many years, had been separated from her husband for a long time and that her husband was the bandit "Old North Wind" from Naitoushan. Huaihua also unexpectedly found out that Yang Zirong was the same person who had been betrothed to her in their hometown in Shandong. Therefore, Yang Zirong began to devise a plan to eliminate the Naitoushan bandits... First, they replaced Luan Ping to intercept the bandit Diao Zhanyi, capturing him and opening up a lead on Luan Ping. Despite being obstinate and stubborn, Luan Ping finally revealed that the underground contact map was kept by his wife, and that the entire map was in Japanese, which he could not understand at all. The locations for hiding opium were only well known to Old North Wind and the military supplies officer Hu Biao. To further grasp the enemy situation, Shao Jianbo sent Yang Zirong and others to find Luan Ping's wife while he went to the market. The unrest in the market made Shao Jianbo realize that the various bandit factions were unable to sit still as they were desperately searching for the contact map. He decided to quickly eliminate the Naitoushan bandits. During their search for Luan Ping's wife, Yang Zirong and Sun Dade discovered the Mushroom Elder, who had an intimate knowledge of Naitoushan. Bai Ru healed the Mushroom Elder's illness, earning his trust. After detailed introductions from the Mushroom Elder, Shao Jianbo learned about the seriousness of the situation and the difficulties of the campaign. The people in Luan Chaojia's family became interested in the Eagle Beak Cliff mentioned by the Mushroom Elder... Yang Zirong designed to capture Old North Wind, who was coming down the mountain to intercept a message, and with Huaihua's help launched a surprise attack, annihilating the Naitoushan bandits in one fell swoop. The massive victory at Naitoushan boosted the morale of the small team. Shao Jianbo encouraged the masses to produce for self-rescue, starting up a small locomotive left over from the Japanese occupation, and the first train from Jiapigou arrived in Mudanjiang. The operation of the small train drove the bandits to despair, and they sought to teach the newly formed small team a lesson... The train was ambushed by bandits, with the soldier Gao Bo and others who were responsible for escorting the train gallantly sacrificing themselves, while the small furnace worker Luan Ping, who was sent to Mudanjiang for trial, managed to escape midway. Luan Ping learned from bandits, also captured on the train, that his wife had been kidnapped by the bandits from the Wuhushan area, and he sneaked to the bandits' contact point at the Shenhe Temple to gather information. Yang Zirong and his comrades who were on reconnaissance outside noticed this and launched a surprise attack on the temple, destroying the stronghold, confiscating the radio, and rescuing Li Yue'e from Luan Ping, who then rolled down the cliff... Li Yue'e suffered a miscarriage and heavy bleeding; Bai Ru bravely donated blood. The small team arranged for Li Yue'e to stay at Huaihua's home, where Huaihua unexpectedly found a contact map hidden in the layers of Li Yue'e's cotton-padded jacket. However, the military district could not decipher this contact map... Shao Jianbo summarized the lessons from the train bombing and prepared to attack the Big Pot Helmet according to the military district's instructions. However, the Big Pot Helmet was in the plains, and the small team's horses could not catch up to the bandits' sleds. Shao Jianbo was inspired by a Soviet army documentary about skiing, and the military district sent Soviet Major Sasha to teach the small team to ski. Soon, a fast-moving ski team emerged in the vast snowy forest... Subsequently, the small team fully utilized collective wisdom and the advantages of skiing, employing various strategies such as "turning the tables," "drawing the tiger from its den," "destroying the nest and cutting off the retreat," "bombing the horses at the trough," and "the great maneuver in the snowy forest," to consecutively eliminate the bandits from the Big Pot Helmet Mountain and the four brigades stationed at the Sifangtai. By this time, Yang Zirong was no longer the cook Old Yang full of street smarts but had grown into a resourceful reconnaissance hero. He had a clear understanding of the situation of various bandits and, along with Sun Dade and Old North Wind, captured the Japanese female spy Noda Seiko alive and cleverly utilized the characteristics of horses to kill Hu Biao, finding the opium. Old North Wind was then personally received by Commander Tian and officially joined the Democratic United Army. These revolutionaries, with distinct personalities, appearances, ages, and backgrounds, gradually forged a bond of brotherhood more intimate than comradeship through their shared campaign against bandits. To completely eradicate the last and most stubborn bandits of the Wuhushan area, Shao Jianbo and Yang Zirong stayed awake for several nights and ingeniously staged a dramatic "Capture of the Wuhushan"…
