In a remote village, the person constantly tormented by a mysterious figure is Chai Dan (played by Ren Dahua) — someone who once suffered greatly in the village and has since changed his name. Dan has always concealed his true identity from his beloved Yuan Dong'er (played by Xueli). However, on the day when the county's high-ranking officials force a marriage, Dan finally reveals his identity and manages to rescue Yuan and her sister Shuang (played by Guan Yonghe), beginning a life on the run.
