Zheng Laowan, a farmer living in Baiqing Village, Baiting Township, Yinling City, is a simple and honest farmer. He lost his wife early on and has raised three sons and one daughter by himself. Now that his children have grown up and started their own families and careers, Zheng Laowan thought his worries for them were almost over and began to dream of an unusual twilight romance for himself. However, things do not go as smoothly as he wished. As parents, they always have endless worries about their children’s affairs. Zheng Laowan lives outside the city with his eldest son Zheng Laiwen, his eldest daughter-in-law, and his younger son Zheng Laibin. His daughter, a famous host at the city television station, Zheng Xiaolan, and his son-in-law, Pei Jinshan, a sales manager at a agricultural trading company, along with Pei Dama (his mother-in-law) and Zheng Laiwu, his second son who is a civil servant at a government agency, live in the city of Yinling. People in and out of the city come and go for life, work, and emotions. These ordinary people play different roles in various fields of society. Different values and diverse ways of thinking lead them to experience the bittersweet and sour of life in the colorful society and complex interpersonal relationships. Those in politics seek promotion, farmers seek wealth, workers seek stability, and businesspeople seek fortune... This drama focuses on reflecting the rich social practices and psychological journeys of ordinary people in Northeast urban and rural areas through the descriptions of many stories and character portrayals among fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, brothers and sisters, mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, and neighbors and colleagues in the everyday life of the Zheng and Pei families. By depicting these mundane matters, the drama celebrates the warmth for life, pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty of Northeast common people, along with their stubborn, kind-hearted, frank, and genuine character traits, thus reflecting the changing relationships between people in the new era, while showing what more common people desire as social civilization progresses, and how their spiritual outlook changes. The interaction between urban and rural areas, showcasing the "big" in the "small" and offering a panoramic view, is an artistic feature this drama strives for; its artistic style is grounded in the vernacular and everyday life, narrated through the unique humor of Northeast common people who tell stories from their surroundings; the artistic backdrop consists of local dialects, typical folk customs.
