The series is adapted from the mystery novel of the same name by Kanae Minato, published in 2019. It tells the story of emerging film director Kaori Hagasebe (played by Keiko Kitagawa) consulting new screenwriter Mahi Kai (played by Riho Yoshioka) on a movie script. The origin of the story lies in the "Sasazuka Family Murder Case," in which a reclusive man stabbed his high school sister to death at home and subsequently set the house on fire, resulting in the deaths of his parents 15 years ago.
