In a town in the southwest during the late Qing dynasty, the Wei residence is a prominent family in the area. A nameless homeless boy, by chance, is brought back to the Wei residence by the master of the household, Wei Renjie. Wei Renjie and his wife, Ci Yun, see the resemblance of their deceased son, Wei Tianxi, in this boy and soon formally adopt him, naming him Wei Tianxi. Wei Renjie’s only daughter, Wei Shuman, despite being from a noble family, is innocent and playful, unwilling to be bound by the cumbersome formalities of her prominent family. With Tianxi’s arrival, their relationship evolves from opposition to closeness, with Shuman’s wild desire for freedom being ignited by Tianxi; they gradually become close companions in adventure. As they grow up, Tianxi and Shuman develop a unique love for each other that feels inseparable and profound. Tianxi’s presence threatens the position of Wei Renyi’s son, Wei Tianzhao, as the heir of the Wei family. Under the instigation of his mother, Shu Qin, Tianzhao harbors intense hatred for Tianxi and frequently bullies and provokes him. However, as Tianxi's status at the Wei residence strengthens, Tianzhao can only bury his resentment deep inside. Lacking talent and ambition, Tianzhao is sent by Wei Renjie and his wife to Shanghai for business training to increase his experience. Feeling excluded, Tianzhao leaves in resentment. The Chu couple, cousins of the Wei family, return from studying abroad with their son, Wen Pu, and daughter, Wen Qi, to settle in the hometown. The arrival of the Chu family and the Wen siblings exposes the wild-spirited Shuman to an elegant, fashionable lifestyle. Shuman, filled with curiosity, is irresistibly attracted, while Wen Pu falls deeply in love with her. Feeling neglected, Tianxi deliberately cold-shoulders Shuman, but through their disputes, they clarify their indestructible affection for each other. To prevent the “forbidden” love between his adopted son and daughter, Wei Renjie intends to betroth Shuman to Wen Pu. Tianxi and Shuman run away, and while pursuing them, Wei Renjie tragically falls to his death in a ravine. This incident drives Wei Madam into madness. Returning from Shanghai, Tianzhao, with the help of his mother, takes control of the family affairs. He not only deprives Tianxi of his inheritance but also insists on reducing Tianxi to a status lower than that of a servant. For the love of Shuman, Tianxi endures humiliation at the Wei residence and refuses to leave. To help Tianxi escape his tragic life, Shuman naively chooses to marry Wen Pu, believing it will bring Tianxi to the Chu family and free him from Tianzhao’s control. Deeply in love with her, Tianxi storms out one stormy night in anger. Years later, Tianxi returns home wealthy, but the Wei residence, now under Tianzhao’s management, has fallen into decay. Tianxi seizes the Wei family assets and demotes Tianzhao to a servant’s status, but Tianzhao's son, Zijun, harbors a strange sense of closeness towards Tianxi. After Tianzhao's death, the innocent and kind Zijun continues to care for Tianxi, and Tianxi finds that his hatred is ineffective in the face of Zijun. To take revenge for Shuman’s betrayal, Tianxi seduces Wen Qi, Wen Pu’s sister. Shuman, tortured by emotions, passes away. Shuman’s death ultimately melts the ice of hatred in Tianxi’s heart. He gives up on revenge, returns the family assets to Zijun, and leaves alone.
