The story begins with four 17-year-old high school girls from different families and with distinct personalities, all facing college entrance exams. Xiaoyue is academically excellent, gentle, and strong, but comes from a poor background and ultimately gives up her chance to attend college just before the exams. However, her kind and simple nature leads her to a decent job where her boss appreciates her. Xiaoyu is a pure and timid girl raised by a single father who has high expectations for her education. He hires a college student to tutor her, but the inexperienced Xiaoyu ends up in a relationship with the young tutor and becomes pregnant. Fearing her father and friends' reactions, she chooses to have an abortion at a private clinic, but suffers from severe complications during the college entrance examination and ends up losing her uterus, thus unable to have children.
