The story takes place in a coastal city in the south, where the loving couple Gu Lan and Xiao Wei Dong, from a prominent family, lead a comfortable life with their daughter Ke Ren. One day, Gu Lan, a pharmacist working in a hospital, meets Ye Xiangchuan, the assistant general manager of Huirong Pharmaceutical Company. Xiao Wei Dong's company is facing a merger. In order to win the general manager election, he reluctantly hires his foreign trade director's niece, Deng Deng, to work in the company. Gu Lan's brother, Gu Lei, graduates from university and works for an advertising company. His girlfriend, Xiao Fan, gives up her job in Beijing for love and comes to the south to be with Gu Lei. Gu Lan, Jin Ping, and Xiang Lian have been good friends since school. Jin Ping, working in a small hospital, is always thinking of ways to make money; Xiang Lian goes abroad to seek fortune after suffering emotional setbacks; although Gu Lan does not overly pursue wealth, she fears being eliminated, so she follows Jin Ping to sell pants and fake medicine.
