The story takes place in the distant ancient Roman era, on the verge of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius located in the ancient city of Pompeii. Soon, the entire city will be turned into ruins in an instant, permanently buried in the annals of history. Milo (played by Kit Harington) lost his parents and family at a young age and was sold to a wealthy family as a slave gladiator. A noblewoman named Cassia (played by Emily Browning) appears in his life, and despite their stark differences in status, Milo hopelessly falls in love with her. Unfortunately, Cassia is already engaged and is about to be forced to marry the corrupt and incompetent senator Corvus (played by Kiefer Sutherland). When the volcano erupts, the surviving Milo decides to return to the fiery city for one reason: to save his beloved.
