Orphan Heidi (Anuk Steffen) is sent to the Alps by her aunt Dete (Anna Scheins) to live with her grandfather (Bruno Ganz), who lives alone in the mountains far from the town. Energetic Heidi thrives here, making friends with shepherd Peter (Quirin Agrippi) and connecting with her reclusive grandfather, while also bonding with Peter's family down in the valley. One day, while herding sheep on the mountain with Peter, her aunt suddenly appears and tricks Heidi into being sold to the Sesemann family in Frankfurt. From then on, the illiterate Heidi becomes the companion of Miss Clara (Isabel Ottenmann). Clara lost her mother at a young age and, after a serious illness, can no longer stand, leaving her confined to the mansion with only her wheelchair for company. Her father (Maxim Memet) is rarely home due to work, leaving lonely Clara to cling to Heidi for companionship. Can Heidi adapt to her new life in the Sesemann household? Will she ever see her grandfather and Peter again? Is there hope for Clara's legs to heal?
