This film is a collective debut during the rise of the Czech New Wave movement. Most of these personality-driven directors graduated from the Prague Film School and aimed to break away from the Soviet film teaching model, attempting to depict the world they saw through a brand-new visual language. These variously themed short films reflect the young directors' understanding of the world and their points of focus. The five directors are Jiří Menzel ("Closely Watched Trains"), Věra Chytilová ("Daisies"), Jaromil Jireš ("Valerie and Her Week of Wonders"), Ewald Schorm, and Jan Němec. With their youth and passion, they expressed their thoughts and avant-garde visuals to the greatest extent possible in a taboo era.
