U.S. Marine Corps General Francis (played by Ed Harris) is dissatisfied with the government’s compensation and welfare for veterans, fallen soldiers, and their families. He leads his men to smuggle the U.S. military's latest biochemical weapon -- VX gas bombs -- to Alcatraz Island, taking 81 tourists hostage and controlling the island. He threatens the U.S. government to pay a ransom of $100 million within 48 hours, or he will kill the hostages and launch a gas attack on San Francisco. Alcatraz Island was previously the most secure prison in the U.S., difficult to attack. The U.S. government accidentally discovers from records that former British agent Mason (played by Sean Connery) successfully escaped from the prison, so they enlist him to lead a special forces team to take over the "rock" within 30 hours…
