The original title of this drama was "The Barking Murders," renamed to focus on the lost lives in the case. The story recounts the real-life murders in Barking, Essex, from the perspective of the victims' families, detailing the series of crimes committed by Stephen Port and the criticized police investigation process. Rapist and serial killer Stephen Port used gay dating websites to find his victims, drugging and assaulting them, resulting in the deaths of four individuals from overdoses caused by him. Despite the clear similarities between the first three murders, the police did not investigate in the direction of "serial killing," leading the victims' families to believe that the police also bore responsibility for the repeated occurrences of the homicides.
