The story takes place in a small town named "East Town." Mel (Kate Winslet) is a detective living and working there. Every day, Mel has to deal with various trivial matters happening in the town, and these issues pile up, inevitably leaving her feeling mentally and physically exhausted. One day, the occurrence of a murder case disrupts the peaceful atmosphere of the small town. A girl named Erin (Cailee Spaeny) is found dead on the riverbank, and a leaked video shows that Erin was bullied by her ex-boyfriend Dylan (Jack Mulhern) and his current girlfriend Brianna (Mackenzie Lansing) on the day of her death. Mel does not hesitate to arrest both of them. The impact of this case quickly sweeps through the entire town like a butterfly effect, and suddenly, everyone around Mel seems to be caught up in the case.
