Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Sarah Vaughan, it focuses on the scandals of Britain's privileged elite and the women caught up in them. The original story tells of an ambitious Westminster politician whose marriage falls apart after he is accused of rape, with his wife believing in his innocence while the prosecuting lawyer is equally convinced of his guilt.
