This drama is based on public records and the book "Integrity" co-authored by Egil "Bud" Krogh and Matthew Krogh. The story chronicles how President Richard Nixon's own political operatives, E. Howard Hunt (played by Woody Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (played by Justin Theroux), accidentally undermined the presidential office they were trying to protect. Nixon had a team called the "plumbers" to collect information on political enemies, smear opponents, and prevent insiders from leaking information, with E. Howard Hunt and G.
