Ah Wah (played by Andy Lau) has always wanted to be a good police officer. Just as he gets a great opportunity to show his skills, he is transferred to a team with a very low morale, completely lacking in motivation. Their squad is often looked down upon by another team led by Cheung Yeung (played by Cheung Yiu Yeung). Ah Wah is very dissatisfied with Yeung's style and has a conflict with him during an operation. Ah Wah's mother (played by Lam Kin Ming) calls him back home because his girlfriend Ah Lan (played by Maggie Cheung) is being pressured by her father (played by Qin Pei) to marry a wealthy man with whom she has no feelings. Ah Lan's father is also Ah Wah's mentor, leaving him torn between duty and loyalty. To make matters worse, Ah Wah discovers that his mother has fallen for his colleague Qiu (played by Anthony Wong). Back at the police station, a group of bandits attempts to break in to rescue their accomplice, but the credit for capturing the bandit is cunningly taken by Cheung Yeung. Unable to tolerate this any longer, Ah Wah decides to settle things with Yeung in a taekwondo match.
