The 2012 political thriller "National Secrets" consists of 4 episodes, starring Gabriel Byrne, Charles Dance, and Gina McKee, inspired by Chris Mullin's novel "A Most British Coup." The series deeply explores the relationship between elected governments, the military, and large corporations. The first episode has a runtime of one hour and premiered on Channel 4 on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, with the remaining three episodes airing every Wednesday thereafter. During the election period, a serious industrial accident in the Teesside area results in multiple fatalities, raising some tricky questions regarding the safety protocols of the American petrochemical company (PetroFex). The British Prime Minister claims to have secured compensation for the victims, but the flight he is on from PetroFex HQ inexplicably crashes in the Atlantic Ocean. Deputy Prime Minister Tom Dawkins (played by Gabriel Byrne) is thrust into action, and while seeking justice and truth for the victims, uncovers a conspiracy at the heart of the political system.
