Academy Award winner Steven Zaillian takes charge of a series project once again after the HBO miniseries "The Night Of." He writes and directs the Showtime eight-episode series "Ripley," based on the famous sociopathic character created by Patricia Highsmith. Steven Zaillian will be responsible for most of the writing and directing of the first season. The show will draw from the five novels: "The Talented Mrs. Ripley," "Ripley Under Ground," "Ripley's Game," "The Boy Who Followed Ripley," and "Ripley Underwater," telling the story of how Tom Ripley evolves from a con artist to a serial killer. The series is set in 1960s New York, where Tom Ripley (played by Andrew Scott) is recruited by a wealthy man to convince the man's wayward son to return from Italy. However, this journey becomes Tom Ripley's first step into a world of deception, fraud, and murder. The character of Tom Ripley is most famously portrayed in the film "The Talented Mr. Ripley," played by Matt Damon.
