Imagine this scenario: you’re hitchhiking, and due to the long drive, the driver takes turns with you. When it’s your turn to drive, you suddenly realize the driver has died... So, without further ado, after disposing of the body in the wilderness, you take on his identity (it's somewhat reminiscent of a scene from "The Professional: Reporter," but the motivations and context are completely different here; besides, there’s no photo on the ID, so changing your identity should be easier), and continue driving.
