Imagine this scenario: you’re hitchhiking, and due to the long drive, the driver takes turns with you. When it’s your turn to drive, you suddenly realize the driver has died... So, without further ado, after disposing of the body in the wilderness, you take on his identity (it's somewhat reminiscent of a scene from "The Professional: Reporter," but the motivations and context are completely different here; besides, there’s no photo on the ID, so changing your identity should be easier), and continue driving. When you stop for gas, you pick up a woman, and while you're still thinking about her beauty, she surprisingly turns to you and says she’s the ex-girlfriend (or ex-wife; it’s just that kind of relationship) of the car’s owner! Of course, you’re desperate, even though you honestly state that you didn’t kill the owner (but who would believe that?) However, things get even stranger (the plot really keeps twisting, even though you just want to get from the East Coast to the West Coast to marry your girlfriend who has run off to Hollywood). Just when you think you've found an accomplice to help you out of your predicament—after all, whether the owner left behind seven hundred dollars or three thousand doesn’t matter to you because your destination is to get married—you find her scheme frightening: the owner’s father, whom he hasn’t seen in a long time, has died, and the newspaper says the family is looking for the owner to inherit hundreds of thousands of dollars... She wants you to impersonate him completely (this... seems like a plot from another American movie, akin to some kind of road film, where the protagonist didn’t kill the original owner but rather another greedy individual, and in the end, he found himself caught by the police for claiming to be someone he wasn’t, believing he was arrested for killing so-and-so, but in reality, he had killed the person who killed so-and-so... Isn’t that frustrating? But what movie is this? Can someone help me out here?), but your conscience can’t handle it; after all, pretending to be him for these few days is exhausting enough. Yet, she threatens to call the police on you. Thus, within a motel, another bizarre death incident occurs: through the locked door, you accidentally kill her!! You can’t even cover it up, and now you only hope her death could somehow be mistaken for his, ideally leading to speculation that he killed her and then inexplicably died in the wasteland... So, I think the movie title should be translated as "Detour." (Written by Fei Nei)
