In 1722, Kangxi passed away, and the Fourth Prince, Yinzhen (played by Tang Guoqiang), known as the "Cold-faced King," ascended to the throne. Although Yinzhen was not the favored candidate for the throne by the court and the public, he was personally chosen by Kangxi to be the Yongzheng Emperor. He incited disasters among the disaster-stricken people in Jiangnan, holding a banquet at the City God Temple where he extorted over two million taels of silver from local officials and wealthy merchants to fund disaster relief; he pursued the debts owed to the national treasury, driving old ministers to suicide; in the case of wrongful imprisonment handled by the Ministry of Justice, he watched from a distance as the Eighth Prince and the Crown Prince fought to their mutual destruction; in the bribery case involving officials, he used Yan Gengyao's influence to violently cleanse Jiangxia Town, leading to the Crown Prince's reinstatement being revoked. After Yongzheng took power, prominent officials involved in cases such as the Shanxi Nuomin case and the imperial examination cheating scandal faced execution. With military actions in the northwest and numerous natural disasters across several provinces, there was an urgent need for military funding and disaster relief, leading to the confiscation of corrupt officials' fortunes to address immediate needs. Subsequent events aimed at implementing new policies, suppressing the wealth accumulation of officials and gentry, internal court factional struggles, and various historical incidents, including "taxes on the populace being incorporated into land" and "the abolition of examinations in Henan," as well as "confrontation in the royal palace by the iron-capped princes" and "tearfully executing one's own children," marked the life of Yongzheng and the Yongzheng Dynasty...
