This drama is adapted from the novel "A Century of Memories" by Du Liang. During the reign of the Qing dynasty's Xianfeng period, the century-old paper shop Songzhuzhai in the Liulichang area of the capital was favored by literati for its high-quality products, gaining fame throughout the capital. In the Second Opium War of 1860, the shopkeeper of Songzhuzhai saved General Zheng Yuanpei's life by using ancient ink to stop his bleeding and treat his injuries. In gratitude, General Zheng presented him with the calligraphy of Master Huaisu's "Holy Mother of Xiling" and Emperor Huizong Zhao Ji's "Willow and Egrets". The second-generation shopkeeper Zhang Shanlin (played by Ma Weifu) indulged in pleasure, leading his nephew Zhang Youlin (played by Li Bin) to lose interest in studies as well. The Zheng family's descendant, Qiuyue (played by Yang Si), fell into misfortune but was rescued by Lord Yang Xianji of the Ministry of Justice (played by Liu Weiming) and brought to the capital, eventually recognizing her relationship with the Zhang family. Zhang Youlin was imprisoned for assault, but his misfortune led to a fortuitous encounter with the northwest swordsman Huo Zhenxi (played by Wang Xinhai). Meanwhile, Songzhuzhai, struggling with poor management, was on the verge of bankruptcy, but was revitalized under the new shopkeeper Zhuang Huchen (played by Liu Peiqi), who renamed it Songhezhai. Though the adult Zhang Youlin (played by Zhang Jiayi) had feelings for Qiuyue, he ultimately followed his mother's wishes and married the wealthy rice shop heiress He Jiabi (played by Yao Chen). As time passed, the next-generation shopkeeper Wang Renshan (played by Zheng Xiaoning) continued to manage Songhezhai with great effort, and the century-old store witnessed a tumultuous period of modern Chinese history.
