This drama is adapted from the novel "A Century of Memories" by Du Liang. During the reign of the Qing dynasty's Xianfeng period, the century-old paper shop Songzhuzhai in the Liulichang area of the capital was favored by literati for its high-quality products, gaining fame throughout the capital. In the Second Opium War of 1860, the shopkeeper of Songzhuzhai saved General Zheng Yuanpei's life by using ancient ink to stop his bleeding and treat his injuries. In gratitude, General Zheng presented him with the calligraphy of Master Huaisu's "Holy Mother of Xiling" and Emperor Huizong Zhao Ji's "Willow and Egrets". The second-generation shopkeeper Zhang Shanlin (played by Ma Weifu) indulged in pleasure, leading his nephew Zhang Youlin (played by Li Bin) to lose interest in studies as well.
