"The Anti-bandit Campaign in Southwest China" is adapted from the true story of Cheng Lianzhen, the beautiful female bandit leader of the Bouyei ethnic group in Guizhou, who was granted amnesty by Mao Zedong. This drama tells the story of the bandits in southeastern Guizhou who still ruled the mountains and harmed the people after the liberation of the country in 1950, led by a female bandit named Zheng Yaomei, who attacked the newly established people's government and killed innocent villagers. Our Southwest Liberation Army mobilized 100,000 troops to carry out a comprehensive anti-bandit campaign in the Sichuan-Guizhou region, leading to the encirclement and destruction of most bandit groups. Zheng Yaomei fled but was eventually captured. After reporting to the central government, she received Mao Zedong's directive for leniency. After being amnestied, Zheng Yaomei felt grateful and resolved to change her ways and start anew. Several times, she went into the mountains to negotiate with the remaining bandits to persuade them to surrender. She also led the People's Liberation Army into the mountains to hunt down the resisting bandits, ultimately resulting in the complete eradication of the bandits in southeastern Guizhou, allowing her to redeem herself and gain a new life.
