In the year 0079 of the Universal Century, during the latter stages of the One Year War between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon, the space colony cluster Moore in Side 4 was destroyed by an attack from the Zeon forces, resulting in the loss of many lives. In the dark reef space where countless wrecks of the destroyed colonies and sunken warships drift, debris collides and generates constant flashes of lightning, leading to the area being known as the 'Thunderbolt Sector.' The Earth Federation force, consisting of survivors from Moore, known as the Moore Brotherhood, strives to reclaim their hometown of the Thunderbolt Sector and eliminate the Zeon forces within it. To hinder the Federation's advance, the Zeon army deploys the Living Dead Division, established for the purpose of collecting combat data from cybernetic soldiers. Io Fleming, who belongs to the Moore Brotherhood and harbors disdain for being bound by his hometown and heritage, and Darryl Lorenzen, who lost both legs in past battles and now serves as an ace sniper in the Living Dead Division, come to realize when they face each other on the battlefield that they are destined to kill each other...
