In 2013, Urban NO.6. This is an ideal country without crime, disease, war, or so-called pain and resentment. A 12-year-old genius boy, Shion (voiced by Yuuki Kaji), who has always believed this, lives with his mother in the high-end residential area of NO.6. On a stormy night, he encounters someone who will overturn his worldview—a battered and hostile boy named Rat (voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya). Instead of feeling fear, Shion is curious and fond of Rat, and he saves him. As a result, he is suspected of harboring a criminal and stripped of all his privileges, ultimately becoming a park caretaker. After this upheaval, Shion begins to question the ideal world he lives in, and terrifying incidents of death begin to occur frequently in the city. These incidents are intricately linked to NO.6, and increasingly confused, Shion does not realize he is on the edge of life and death until he is saved by Rat, whom he hasn’t seen in four years, and brought to the impoverished area outside NO.6.
