60-year-old Takahiro Gen travels a great distance to visit the reclusive movie star Chiyoko Fujiwara, who has been living in seclusion for thirty years, accompanied by 28-year-old photographer Koji Iida, to shoot a documentary about her life story. Although 75 years old, Chiyoko arrives gracefully, her characteristic beauty still intact, and the small mole under her left eye remains playful. Takahiro hands her a key, which deeply moves Chiyoko; she declares that this key is crucial to unlocking a secret, one she lost many years ago but has now regained. Chiyoko's thoughts drift far away. On September 1, 1926, Chiyoko Fujiwara was born. Her alluring beauty was spotted by a talent scout at the age of 16. However, it wasn't until she met a painter that her life took a turn; she helped him escape the turmoil of the era by hiding him in her family’s warehouse. He gave her a key, claiming it to be the key to a secret, and promised to take her to see the snow in Hokkaido when they reunited. Unfortunately, the next day, when Chiyoko returned from school, the painter had fled to escape capture. Chiyoko then entered the film industry because the painter had mentioned he would go to Manchuria to fight, and her first film promised to be shot in Manchuria. Thus began Chiyoko's cinematic career, featuring love stories set in the eras of Japan's Warring States, the Tokugawa shogunate, Taisho, and Showa. In each story, Chiyoko runs, searching for her true love. The scenes blend with her own narrative, blurring the lines between reality and fiction. Takahiro and Koji follow her closely, sometimes becoming characters within the stories. However, upon losing the key, a disheartened Chiyoko marries the director Otaki, who had long pursued her. Later, she discovers that everything was part of a carefully orchestrated scheme. Realizing the truth, Chiyoko resolves to continue her search for her first love from her youth.
