In a conspiracy, high school student Makina Hoshimura (voiced by Nana Akiyama) and her entire family are murdered by a mysterious organization called "Seven Stars." Later, the monk Keisei Togusa (voiced by Keiji Fujiwara) uses the mystical spell of the Light Words Sect, which belongs to the Grand Marshal System of the True Essence Sect, to resurrect Makina, turning her into a "Corpse Princess" — a type of living dead with deep grudges before death, possessing extraordinary vitality after being resurrected. Corpse Princesses are usually female, and according to the terms of their contracts, they must fight against their kind, "corpses," and upon slaying a total of 108 enemies, they can gain the qualification to enter the Pure Land. Soon after, Keisei Togusa dies in battle, and his contract with Makina is transferred to his adopted son Ouri Kagami (voiced by Tatsuya Hayami). With the help of her companions, Makina begins to investigate the whereabouts of the true culprit behind her parents' murder, while the evil "Seven Stars" also begins to stir for certain secretive purposes.
